Balancing Chakras on the Go: Quick Techniques for Busy Mums

While most women agree that motherhood certainly has its moments of pure and profound joy, us mums are often so frantically on-the-go that the chaos seems to take the place of joy.

Chakra alignment as a busy mum sounds wonderful yet, realistically, unattainable. While many of us would love to attend regular healing sessions (e.g. Crystal Reiki), it’s just not always plausible. What we need are on-the-go chakra exercises that we can do when we’re out and about.

As a previously burnt-out mum who’s now a certified healer, let me share with you five quick chakra balancing techniques and the everyday locations they can be used.

When you’re stuck in traffic on the way to school

Traffic jams are stressful at the best of times, but when you’ve got the time deadline of school hovering above you, they can be downright overwhelming. When you find yourself in this situation, it might be time for some sound therapy.

Using your car stereo and phone (make sure you pull over or get someone else to do this part), open up Spotify or your other favourite audio streaming platform. Search for chakra-specific audio such as solfeggio frequencies, meditation music, nature sounds, or just ‘chakra-balancing’ playlists. These sounds target and balance specific chakras by opening up and healing your energy centres. Being calm and balanced while driving reduces the likelihood of traffic-related accidents and can turn a stressful environment into an invigorating one.

When you’re waiting for the doctor

If you’re waiting at the doctor’s office, chances are either you or one of your kids are unwell. Any mum will tell you that sickness in the home adds another level of stress that leads to serious burnout (especially if you get sick yourself). Your energy centres get blocked, and it seems impossible to reduce the stress.

When you find yourself in this situation, it’s time to do some breathing exercises. Practice deep and rhythmic breathing, focussing on your breath moving through each chakra. Start at the base of your spine and picture each energy centre balancing with every breath. Gradually move up your spine, visualising every blocked chakra, and finish when you get to your crown. Doing this can quickly balance your chakras and make you more calm and focused during your appointment waiting time.

When you’re out buying groceries

Many of us agree that grocery shopping is not a peaceful experience. While online shopping can certainly help, we all tend to find ourselves at the supermarket soon enough. It’s noisy, we’re trying to stick to a budget, remember all the foods our picky eaters will and won’t eat, and are often dealing with fussy little people at the same time. For a quick chakra balance, pull out your essential oils.

Different essential oils have different roles, but when it comes to the chaos of grocery shopping, you need the ability to stay focused and remain calm. Peppermint, rosemary, and lemon are all beneficial for mental clarity and focus, while lavender, ylang-ylang, and chamomile all promote a sense of calm. Either inhale their aroma or apply to oil-specific points on your body. Keeping one or many of these essential oils in your car or purse means you’re prepped for a quick chakra balance at all times.

When you’re at extra-curricular activities

While we love our kids and want them to experience the benefits of extra-curricular activities, the marathon of soccer practice or the energy of gymnastics can leave us feeling wilted and in need of a quick chakra balance. The next time you’re waiting for practice to end, consider using the time for some quick grounding exercises.

Find a quiet spot in nature and take off your shoes. Stand or sit on the ground, imagining there are roots extending from your feet into the Earth. If you feel comfortable doing so, close your eyes and focus on your Root chakra (found at the base of your spine). Turn your attention to your senses and ask yourself what you can hear, smell, taste, and feel. Let this awareness ground you and align your healing centres. When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes, take a deep breath, and notice the chakra alignment that has taken place.

When you’re overwhelmed at work

If you’re a mum who works outside of the home, you probably know how overwhelming that can be. Deadlines and difficult co-workers add stress, while that dreaded phone call from daycare or school (you know the one I mean!) pushes you even more over the edge. If you ever feel like this, it’s time to add affirmations to your life.

One of the best things about affirmations is that they’re done quickly, have profound effects, and can be easily accessed. If you’re someone who needs a constant visual reminder, consider purchasing or making some affirmation cards to stick around your workplace. If your job has you on-the-go, download an affirmation app on your phone or even use one as your phone background. By simply saying the right affirmations to yourself at the right times, you can feel an immediate sense of calm, motivation, and alignment of your chakras.

While the chaos of mum-life can’t always be helped, these quick chakra-balancing techniques can really help busy mums when they’re on the go.

The next time you’re feeling stressed while out-and-about, consider using any of the techniques listed above.
